We went to the movies tonight, the BFG (in English), the BGG (Le Bon Gros Géant en français). The movie was “VO,” version originale or the original language of the film, which for us meant we could watch it in English. There were French subtitles too. The feature I found curious was when there was something written on the screen, the sign for the orphanage (l’orphelinat) or the text from the novel Nicholas Nickelby or the label from a jar of captured dreams (la Rêve de Sophie), the text was in French. Seems like a lot of work. I wonder how many countries the movie was released in, and how many of those were subtitled?
